KAR Auction Services, Inc. has promoted Peter Kelly from to its newly created role of president.

Kelly, who most recently served as the president of KAR’s digital services group, will now serve as president, the company announced.

The remarketing and technology services provider previously operated without a president. Jim Hallett led the company as chairman and CEO. Kelly will report to Hallett.

In his new role, Kelly will oversee ADESA, AFC, and Openlane, as well as the KAR remarketing services and digital services group business. He will also be responsible for the strategic and operational oversight of company’s data as a service, information technology, and sales and marketing functions, according to the company.

Before joining KAR Auction services in 2011, Kelly served as president and CEO of Openlane, a company he co-founded. In 2011, KAR acquired Openlane and Kelly joined the KAR family of companies.

Through the years, Kelly helped grow Openlane transaction volumes to more than one million per year.

Additionally, during his tenure as president of KAR’s digital services group, he advanced the company’s logistics, recovery, and mobility solutions capabilities, the company noted.
