Auction Volume Falls 4% in December: J.D. Power
All vehicle segments, except for large utility vehicles experienced a decline in auction volume through the month, the report added.

The distribution of trucks versus cars at auction also shifted more toward the truck segment in December. Cars still outnumber trucks at auction, but the amount at which they do is shrinking.

Auction volume for units up to five years in age was down 4% year-over-year in November, according to J.D. Power’s Used Car and Light Truck Guidelines for December 2018.
All vehicle segments, except for large utility vehicles, saw supply at auction dwindle through November, the report added.
However, this was not the case for most of 2018. Supply through most of the year was healthy, and as a result year-to-date auction volume sat 4.7% above where it was the year prior at the start of December.
The luxury compact utility segment had a particularly strong showing throughout 2018 — as auction volume for the segment was up 42%. The large utility segment also had a strong showing, as volume for the segment was up 29%.
The distribution of trucks versus cars at auction also shifted more toward the truck segment in December. Cars still outnumber trucks at auction, but the amount at which they do is shrinking; as of the end of November the truck segment accounts for 48.5% of vehicles at auction.
Used supply is expected to peak in 2019, and level off beginning in 2020, according to J.D. Power.
