Tony Moorby accepted the International Automotive Remarketers Alliance's (IARA) Circle of Excellence award at a luncheon preceding the opening of the Conference of Automotive Remarketing (CAR). The award is presented to those who have made outstanding contributions to the remarketing industry and society.

"I'd like to leave the impression that it's me that's got the most out of this industry," Moorby said. "The people I've met have given me lasting relationships and learning opportunities. I'm truly grateful to the business and to the people who contributed to my success."

The award was presented by Dave Alfonso, who recently retired as Kia Motors' remarketing manager and as the chairman of the IARA's awards and recognition committee.

"Moorby has always been a larger-than-life personality," said Tony Long, the IARA's executive director. "He may be best known as a co-founder of ADT Automotive, but Tony has always donated his many talents and resources to help others and to promote our industry."

Moorby served as the president and CEO of ADT Automotive from 1982 to 2000, executive vice president of ADESA from 2000 to 2003, and manager of the Chattanooga Auto Auction from 2009 to 2013. He has written a column for Used Car News since 2009. ADT Automotive was first known as Anglo-American Auto Auctions, when Moorby established it after arriving from the United Kingdom.

"Some may see Tony Moorby as a real Renaissance man with his many artistic talents (painting, writing, etc.) and a mastery of the English vernacular," Long said. "Most will agree that Tony has a big heart (and is a bit mischievous), but admiration and respect is what you see when one of his former employees greets him with a big hug."

Moorby has worked as a representational artist and authored the children's book "Ollie the Alien" (Tate Publishing).
