Three people were killed and nine were injured after a vehicle lost control during a sale at LynnWay Auto Auction in Billerica, Mass., the Chicago Tribune reported.

An auction employee was behind the wheel of a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee when the vehicle lost control, according to Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan.

An employee who witnessed the scene told WCVB-TV that he first heard wheels screech followed by the Jeep launching forward. In an attempt to to avoid hitting nearby cars, the vehicle hit several people at the auction, he said.

The vehicle stopped when it collided with and broke through a wall of the building, the employee said. The accident is under investigation.
