LAS VEGAS – Former Manheim President Warren Young, Sr. was named this year’s International Automotive Remarketers Alliance (IARA) Circle of Excellence award recipient. The award was presented Feb. 27 at the IARA Roundtable Conference held in Las Vegas. Unable to attend in person, Walter Young, Jr. accepted the award on his behalf.

Prior to 1962, Young was general manager at a Dodge Dealership in New Jersey and a branch manager of a national finance company for 10 years.

In 1962, he joined the National Auto Dealers Exchange (NADE) in Bordentown, N.J., where he served as general manager for 10 years. NADE was acquired in 1968 by Cox Broadcasting when the company purchased Manheim Auto Auctions.

Manheim Services Corp. was then formed and Young became vice president. He soon became executive vice president and, in 1975, he was named president, a position he held until his retirement in 1992.

Prior to retiring, in 1991, Young engineered the purchase of GECARS, the General Electric Auction Group, and increased the number of Manheim auctions from 26 to 46.

In 1992, Young turned the presidential reins over to Darryl Ceccoli. To this day, Young remains Manheim’s esteemed – president-emeritus.

Other companies and organizations in which Young was involved included:

A member of the National Auto Auction (NAA) Hall of Fame, one of Young’s charitable passions has been supporting the United Way. He embarked on a campaign to achieve active participation in the United Way by every Manheim employee.

Young implemented games, contests, drawings, and other promotional activities, and made them fun until he achieved and continually maintained 100-percent Untied Way participation by every employee within the entire Manheim organization.

He has also been an advocate of supporting local businesses and charities in all markets where Manheim conducts business.
