Indianapolis based Palmer Trucks has 38 used 2012 Kenworth T440 compressed natural gas (CNG) tractors for sale. The tractors are one of the first CNG tractor fleets to hit the secondary market in the country.
“Palmer Trucks previously leased these Kenworth T440 CNG tractors to Fair Oaks Dairy for their regional haul transportation requirements,” said Frank Walter, Palmer Trucks. “The Fair Oaks Dairy fleet is the first agriculture-based compressed natural gas project to be registered with the EPA’s Renewable Fuel Standard in the United States.”
The cost of diesel continues to rise while the cost of natural gas is stable, and supply is domestic and plentiful. With more natural gas filling stations going up in every area it makes strong economic sense to run natural gas vehicles in any application possible. Trucking fleets have the ability through CNG to incorporate environmentally sustainable operations into their company practices. Several states throughout the country are implementing gross weight increases and road tax exemptions as a way to incentivize fleets to consider utilizing compressed natural gas.
The 2012 Kenworth T440 CNG tractors are equipped with the 9.0L Cummins Westport ISL-G engine @ 320 h.p., Allison automatic 6-speed 3000HS transmissions, air ride suspensions and 80 DGE (diesel gallon equivalent) CNG fuel tanks. The T440 features excellent maneuverability, advanced aerodynamics for styling and fuel economy and superior ergonomics for driver comfort. The ISL-G engine uses a maintenance-free, three-way catalyst and is 2010 EPA and CARB compliant without the use of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology or a diesel particulate filter (DPF).
“On average these Kenworth T440 CNG tractors have a 300 to 350 mile operating range,” said Kurt Palmer, Palmer Trucks. “The designed application for the 9 liter is 66,000 GVW.”
Retail pricing for these units starts at $83,500, which is significantly less than a new tractor similarly spec’d. Palmer Trucks is committed to alternative fuels and remains eager to lease or sell CNG tractors to other fleets.
Palmer Trucks is an Indiana/Ohio privately owned company specializing in providing top quality Kenworth trucks, CNG systems, parts and service to its midwest clients. With 500 employees, the Palmer Truck Group is committed to providing quality service and solutions to the transportation industry.
