NASHVILLE, TN – When John Rea, managing partner of Rea Brothers Mid-South Auto Auction in Pearl, Miss., assumed the post of president of the National Auto Auction Association last fall, he joined a distinguished group of industry leaders who have directed the activities of the NAAA. That group of NAAA presidents includes several of ServNet’s own who have set a precedent for involved, active leadership: Larry Brasher (1988–1989) and Henry Stanley (2000–2001). Following close behind him is Bob McConkey, who will serve as NAAA president in 2009.
For an already busy auction owner, the added responsibilities as NAAA’s president might seem to require more hours than there are in a day, but people like Rea and the other ServNet owners before him insist that service to the industry isn’t just the right thing to do: it’s good for business.
“Our company started in a one lane, old building. Today we are housed in a new best-in-class facility, setting records for vehicles sold. The auto auction industry has been extremely good to us, so my family and I feel it is important to give something back,” Rea said. “What I have found by participating in the association is that you’re right there when problems surface and solutions are found. In the end, it helps your business — our business — our industry.”
Many other ServNet auction owners and managers donate their time and efforts in serving the NAAA and other industry organizations.
“I’m proud of the many owners and managers among us who give so much in support of the NAAA and other associations,” said Keith Lelux, ServNet’s current president and president elect of the NAAA Southern Zone. “Service beyond the auction contributes to the health and success of our industry, and it is gratifying to see how the industry benefits from the work of the ServNet members.”
