WASHINGTON – The Warren Young, Sr. Scholastic Foundation (WYSF) has received donations in excess of their $500,000 goal for the year.

Concluding a series of fundraising events for the Foundation was an auction held during the Grand Banquet at the convention, which featured a 1948 Chevrolet Stylemaster Town Sedan. NAAA’s new president Bob McConkey took the podium as the auctioneer, bringing the gavel down a winning bid of $23,000.

The NAAA WYSF program assists all full-time NAAA auction member employees, their children, and their grandchildren who plan to continue education in college or vocational school programs. Twelve Scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice.

“NAAA President John Rea challenged us to raise enough money to make the Warren Young Sr. Scholarship Foundation a self-sustaining resource,” said Don Elliott, chairman of the WYSF Fundraising Committee. “Through the generosity of NAAA member auctions, employees, customers and vendors, we were able to exceed the objective and provide merit scholarships for auction employees and their families for many years to come.”

This year’s NAAA Annual Convention included a silent auction and several live auctions held at various activities during the week-long event. The silent auction that closed just prior to the Grand Banquet included more than 80 items donated by individual members, vendors, and associate members of the NAAA. Among the items offered at the silent auction were artwork, travel opportunities, sports equipment and memorabilia, gift certificates, and real estate. Offered for sale at the live auctions during the convention were an original painting by industry veteran Tony Moorby, Kentucky Derby tickets and a travel package donated by Southern Auto Auction, Daytona 500 NASCAR race tickets and travel package donated by Rea Brothers’ Mid-South Auto Auction, an Elk Hunting travel package donated by the Brasher auctions, and the ’48 Chevrolet Sylemaster donated by Manheim.

In addition to the funds raised during the Convention, the Foundation raised $300,000 from 12 NAAA supporters who made major donations to sponsor each of the 12 scholarship awards. A number of industry members have also supported the Foundation through the Warren Young Fellowship program.
