Manheim Texas Hobby Completes $6M Site Enhancements
The three key initiatives of the investment were a permeable paving system, a water reclamation center, and site security upgrades.
Manheim Texas Hobby has completed a two-year, more than $6 million investment in sustainability and security enhancements, according to a company announcement.
The three key initiatives of the investment were a permeable paving system, a water reclamation center, and site security upgrades.
Manheim Texas Hobby operates on a 165-acre site, features 18 sale lanes and registers over 3,300 vehicles per week.
The TRUEGRID permeable paving system that the company implemented into the auction accounted for $4.2 million of the $6 million investment. The paving system will provide a cost-efficient and eco-friendly alternative to concrete or asphalt. The system is made of 100% post-consumer recycled high density polyethylene, which remains cooler than traditional surfaces. Especially important in flood-prone Houston, the new system is completely permeable so storm water drains instantly.
Since there is no runoff with this system, a retention pond is no longer needed, and the full site is available for vehicle storage. Manheim Texas Hobby now holds 3,000 more vehicles than before.
The $250,000 water reclamation center reuses 70% of the water generated by the detail shop. The reverse osmosis system is expected to save the site 1.9 million gallons of water a year, as well as $19,000.
The $1.75 million security upgrade features an advanced camera system, steel plate gates, and barriers around the property. The new low-light, high-resolution wireless cameras operate on their own network, enabling real-time monitoring from anywhere of suspicious activity or potential store damage, the company noted.
