ATLANTA – Manheim Specialty Auctions held its first in-water boat sale, sponsored by Manheim’s 166 Auto Auction Sept. 22, at Indian Point Marina in Branson, Mo. More than 200 customers from Canada to California took advantage of onsite and online bidding using a variety of technologies, including Manheim Simulcast. Of the 89 registered units offered, approximately one-half were sold.

“We are very pleased with the results of our first in-water boat sale, especially with more than 50 percent of the boats sold online,” said Karen Braddy, director of heavy trucks, highline and specialty for Manheim. “While Manheim Simulcast has been used successfully by buyers and sellers with cars, we’re now using it in with specialty auctions. Our customers could not have gotten closer – even if they had a bathing suit. We look forward to hosting this event again next year.”

The auction was the first to employ Manheim’s mobile auction unit, featuring wireless simulcast capabilities. The mobile auction unit includes a trailer with an office for dealer check-in, an auctioneer window, and Manheim Simulcast via satellite. A handheld-camera operator captures different unit angles; giving dealers enhanced close-ups previously unavailable through Manheim Simulcast.
