ATLANTA – Manheim Specialty Auctions recently hosted a motorcycle auction for Bruce Rossmeyer Harley-Davidson during Daytona Bike Week, selling 63 percent of offered vehicles. The sale featured 163 bikes, of which 102 were sold, at Bruce Rossmeyer’s Destination Daytona complex near Daytona Beach, Fla.
This was the first time Bruce Rossmeyer, owner of Destination Daytona and Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Harley-Davidson, employed Daytona Auto Auction’s services for an exclusive, on-site sale.
Rossmeyer will continue to use Daytona Auto Auction for monthly sales and will host an on-site auction again next year during Bike Week due to this year’s success.
There were more than 250 online bids via Manheim Simulcast, which resulted in the sale of 24 motorcycles to online bidders. Manheim Simulcast allows dealers to participate in the physical auction via the Internet during the sale. Buyers in attendance at the physical site hailed from all over the country, while online bidders logged on from locations throughout the world, including Punta Arena, Chile; and Manitoba and Nova Scotia, Canada.
The sale featured bikes from Harley-Davidson, Arlen Ness, American Ironhorse, Hellbound Steel, choppers, custom bikes, and metrics. Size, year, make and model of the bikes varied, with an average sale price just over $10,000. Arlen Ness made a guest appearance while some of his custom bikes were auctioned.
The mobile auction unit includes a trailer with an office for dealer check-in, an auctioneer window, and Manheim Simulcast via satellite. A handheld-camera operator gives online dealers enhanced close-ups previously unavailable through Manheim Simulcast.
Bruce Rossmeyer’s Destination Daytona is situated on more than 150 acres just north of Daytona in Ormond Beach at the intersection of I-95 and U.S. Highway 1; it features a 109,000-square-foot Harley-Davidson dealership, Arlen Ness Motorcycles of Daytona with Triumph, Ducati, American Ironhorse, Hellbound Steel and Ness Motorcycles, restaurants, bars, retail shops, and a hotel and condo complex. Bikers Against Drunk Drivers, whose headquarters are within Destination Daytona, hosted the World’s Largest Motorcycle Giveaway during Bike Week. This year, seven motorcycles and one Toyota truck were raffled. The first of these bikes was awarded during the auction.
Daytona Bike Week, now in its 66th year, is an annual 10-day event and rally in March that attracts more than 500,000 motorcycle enthusiasts.
