GAINESVILLE, GA – National Auto Research, publisher of the Black Book family of vehicle appraisal guides, has announced that ADESA Auctions has chosen Black Book as its provider of vehicle identification information. All ADESA vehicle descriptions will be standardized on Black Book's VIN interpretation, which includes the additional component of Black Book's Universal Vehicle Code (UVC) system that identifies the vehicle down to its trim level.
“We’ve been attending auctions and publishing values on a weekly basis for more than fifty years, and have always had a close relationship with the auction industry. The issue of how to correctly identify a vehicle from it’s VIN has been a major concern for the both the auctions and the dealers who attend them for as long as I can remember,” said Bob Burnett, president of Black Book. “Several years ago, we began to assign a universal vehicle code to each trim level of each vehicle to avoid the confusion caused by overlapping VINs. For example, the VIN might tell you the year, make, and model of a particular vehicle, but if you don’t know its trim level, you could be off by several thousand dollars. With our system of assigning a unique UVC for each trim level, there is never any doubt about which one you’re dealing with.”
