CARMEL, IN – ADESA, Inc. has entered the Washington, D.C. auction market via the acquisition of ABC Washington Dulles, LLC located in Sterling, Va. The acquisition of the ABC Washington Dulles auction expands ADESA's nationwide footprint and dealer base.
The 87-acre leased facility near the Washington Dulles International Airport will be renamed ADESA Washington, D.C. The auction facility commenced operations in 2001 and offers six fully automated auction lanes and full-service reconditioning facilities including body, detail, and mechanical shops. ADESA's wholly owned floorplan finance subsidiary, AFC, will maintain its current on-site loan production office at the facility. The auction currently employs more than 250 people. Terms and conditions of the deal have not been disclosed.
Auction Broadcasting Company (ABC) Washington Dulles was built by ABC as a wholesale vehicle auction and opened for business in 2001.
Michael Hockett, chief executive officer of ABC, stated "With the sale of the facility, it will allow ABC to expand on new initiatives outside of the traditional brick and mortar auction and will allow ABC to set the stage for further expansion into underserved auction markets."
"We are particularly excited about the launching of Auction Broadcasting Exchange ("abX"), our new Internet-based auction portal, and our relationship with American Auto Exchange (AAX), which incorporates inventory intelligence to facilitate ‘smart’ auction transactions over the Internet." Said Hockett.
