A Florida dealer and Oldsmobile collector has purchased three sedans that were the last of their kind from one of the automotive industry's oldest nameplates when General Motors ceased production in 2004.

State Line Auto Auction in Waverly, N.Y., presided over the Dec. 15 sale of the vehicles, which included a 2004 Alero, 1999 Cutlass, and 1996 Cutlass Ciera. The Alero was the last Oldsmobile ever built. General Motors consigned the vehicles for sale from its heritage center.

The auction declined to identify the purchaser. The 2014 Alero sold for $42,000, Fox News reported.

"He is an Oldsmobile collector, and has plans to display all three cars in a museum he is building," said Jeff Barber, president and owner. "We stopped our auction when these three vehicles were sold, so everyone was paying attention.  Eight lanes were stopped. There were Internet bidders active on the cars, but the successful buyer was here in person."

The vehicles were sold with their original manufacturer's statement of origin (MSO) and each have low mileage on their odometers. The Alero had 29 miles, while the other two vehicles had 120 to 130 miles each.

Workers at the Lansing Car Assembly signed their names on the underside of the hood, decklid, and inside the trunk of the Cutlass and Alero.  The Ciera was documented as the last one built, but was not signed, Barber said. The plant closed in 2005.

The three cars were driven across the auction block by the auction's three most senior employees. Connie Foley, Jim Terwilliger, and Keith Corneby drove the Cutlass, Ciera, and Alero. The auctioneers selling the cars were Mark Whalen, Cash Wilcox, and Muray Kent.
