Dyer Auto Auction has announced the opening of a new Greenfield, Indiana, site in conjunction with a transition in family ownership, as the auction’s long-time owner Buzz Cotton transitions the business to his son Jason Cotton as the new owner and auction president.

Jason Cotton has worked alongside his father as Dyer’s fleet/lease manager since 2005. He has been deeply involved in the buildout of the auction’s new facility, according to the auction. The new auction will hold its official grand opening in January and will be renamed Chicagoland Independent Auction.

“It is with a great deal of pride and confidence that I announce that Dyer Auto Auction will transition to the next generation of family ownership,” Buzz Cotton said. “Jason is devoted to this business and to our customers, and I know that the future holds great promise for the auction with him at the helm.”

Also announced is the appointment of Josh Boender, Buzz Cotton’s stepson, as the auction’s new general manager. Boender steps into the role following the passing, in October, of long-time Dyer General Manager Mike Dean.

The auction’s continuing success has led to it once again outgrowing its facility, resulting in the new Chicago-area auction, which includes a 100,000 square foot auction building and eight auction lanes. Located at the crossroads of the three major interstates that service the region, the auction is within easy reach of all points in the Midwest.

Opened in 1947, and in its Indiana location since 1977, Dyer Auction held the first sale in its new facility in Gary, Indiana on Nov. 18, 2020. The auction will continue to run weekly sales on Fridays and has now transitioned all its dealer and commercial accounts to the new facility in Gary, Indiana.
