The Car Remarketing Association in Europe, CARA, has announced the appointment of Johan Verbois as its first executive director.

Following a thorough, highly competitive selection process, Verbois was chosen from a shortlist of 10 high-profile candidates across the European automotive and car remarketing ecosystems. The CARA Board unanimously confirmed his appointment, based on his extensive industry experience, his ability to combine strategic vision with strong operational execution, and his long-standing commitment to CARA since its creation in 2014.

CARA’s deliverables include the Fair Wear and Tear Guides, which provide a common reference framework for vehicle condition assessment; the Battery State of Health standards, which support transparency and trust in the growing electric vehicle market; and the newly developed CARA Grading, designed to create greater consistency and comparability across remarketing channels.

These initiatives demonstrate CARA’s focus on practical solutions, professional standards, and the development of collaborative best practices for the European car remarketing industry. As CARA continues to expand its membership, initiatives, and influence at the European level, the creation of the executive director role reflects the association’s desire to further strengthen its organizational structure, external representation, and its members’ experience. The role is structured as a part-time function to ensure focus.

“CARA has reached a point where dedicated leadership is essential to support its growth and ambitions,” said Luis Maria Pérez Serrano, Chairman of CARA. “Johan combines deep industry knowledge with a pragmatic and collaborative leadership style. He understands both the strategic and operational realities of our sector, and he is ideally positioned to guide CARA into its next phase.”
