EAST WINDSOR, CT – On June 6 and 7, 2006 Southern Auto Auction teamed with GE Remarketing Services to host another successful “Client Day.” The two-day event began with an elegant dinner for 50 guests at Hartford’s Polytechnic Club.

Auction day was busy with a full schedule awaiting the staff from GE Remarketing. It began at 8:30 a.m. with a continental breakfast and opening remarks from Paul Seger, vice president, asset remarketing for GE. Next, they toured the auction facility, learning how vehicles are processed, how condition reports are written, and what marketing strategies are used.

The clients then visited the auction lane, which had been buzzing with activity for two hours with dealers bidding on GE vehicles. The last car in the GE lineup was driven into the auction lane by special guest Jim Calhoun, basketball hall of famer and coach of the UConn Huskies. When the top bid was reached, Coach Calhoun yelled out “Sold” and dropped the hammer to sell the last GE vehicle.

GE went on to announce the winners of its quarterly promotion. Coach Calhoun presented a golf getaway valued at $3,000 to the “Top Buyer” Harold Bendel of Major Chevrolet. The “Most Consistent Buyer,” Barry Cain of Cain’s Inc., was awarded a set of Taylor Made golf clubs. Both winners posed for pictures in the lane with the Coach, Larry Tribble, Paul Seger, Don Secrist, and Dean Rablin.

Following lunch, Seger introduced Coach Calhoun by showing a short video highlighting the many accomplishments of his. With a simple “Ladies and gentlemen, Coach Jim Calhoun,” the 6’4” hall of fame coach took the floor, and for the next 45 minutes captivated the group with stories of how he has been able to motivate his team to multiple victories over the years. He explained that the key to his success is keeping his players grounded and focused on their development as adults. To many of his players, Coach Calhoun not only provides guidance as a coach, but as a father figure and friend.
