On Tuesday, December 16, Greater Quad City Auto Auction (GQCAA) will give away a 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible to cap off a series of celebrations to commemorate Ford’s 100th Anniversary.
The promotion began last June, when the entrance of a yellow ’65 Ford Mustang convertible into the auction arena kicked off
the auction’s Ford anniversary factory sale. The classic was driven through lanes carrying Ford’s Jerry Homeszyn, Bill Hollandsworth, and Rick Sabbag. A total of 550 Ford vehicles were included in the sale; as they crossed the block, they were bid on by 714 registered dealers representing twenty one states, resulting in a 100 percent sale.
The first 450 dealers registering that day received commemorative Ford Anniversary medallions, while Ford/Lincoln/Mercury dealers also received gold Ford medallions. Festive Ford balloons and collector cars (including a People’s Choice Award-wining 1959 Edsel, a 1957 Mercury, and a 1967 Cougar) decorated the lobby and lanes. Anniversary cake complete with a picture of the original 1903 Ford Model A and Ford Motor Company banners added to the festivities.
