FRANKLIN, TN - Members of Auction Academy’s inaugural class joined the Academy staff and sponsors for a special tour of Sanford Auto Dealers Exchange in Sanford, Fla., on their way to Orlando for the 2012 NAAA Conference. Making the visit on sale day, the group was able to watch the auction in action, guided by auction owner Jeff Brody; Mike Mancuso, SADE’s national fleet account manager; marketing manager Tracy Owens; and Wyatt Carter, the auction’s fleet/lease manager who is also a member of the Auction Academy Class group.

“We welcomed the opportunity to show the Auction Academy students, staff and sponsors how we do things at our auction,” said Michael Tumminello, SADE president and owner, who greeted the group upon their arrival at SADE. “We’re proud of what we’ve built here, and are eager to share our experience with this Class Group, which represents the next generation of leadership in our industry.”

The members of the group are participating in Auction Academy’s Next Generation Owner course, a two-year training and development program for the sons and daughters of today’s independent auction owners.  It includes 16 students representing 13 independent auctions and one vendor company, who will move together as a cohesive class over a two-year curriculum which encompasses quarterly classes and periodic field trip to auction facilities around the country.

Auction Academy COO Randall McCathren notes that the Fall Session will convene in East Windsor, Connecticut in October, hosted by Southern Auto Auction.

Major Industry Sponsors for Auction Academy include Black Book, OVE, Design Works-AMG, United Road and DSC. Also supporting the inaugural Class are Used Car News, Cherokee Publishing, Direct Reconditioning, and Capital Automotive Reconditioning, as well as Henry & Patty Stanley of Carolina and Indiana Auto Auctions who sponsored the First Session in Nashville.

The Auction Academy is a continuing education program developed by TPC Management Company (TPC) for professionals in the auction industry.  Structured like an Executive MBA program, Auction Academy has tracks for the next generation of auction leaders as well as for current auction leadership, designed to enhance essential skill sets, promote best practices, and yield better auction performance.
