CALABASAS HILLS, CA - Profiles in History, run by Joe Maddalena, auctioned off one of the original DeLorean DMC-12 cars used as a time machine in the "Back to the Future" movie trilogy.

One of seven DeLoreans used in the film, the vehicle was estimated to fetch $400,000-$600,000, and sold for $541,000.

Of the seven DeLoreans, only three have survived since filming, and this is one of those three - the only one in private hands. After filming completed, the car sat on the backlot at Universal Studios for about 14 years, with a short time on display at the Petersen Auto Museum in Los Angeles. The other DeLoreans are still owned by Universal Studios, and are usually on display at the theme parks.

Part of the proceeds for the car went to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
