RICHMOND, VA - CarMax, Inc., a national retailer of used cars, announced that The CarMax Foundation has awarded OneOC, formally known as Volunteer Center Orange County in California, a $5,000 grant as part of the Foundation’s Regional Giving Program.

OneOC received the grant for the 2011 Take the Lead Teen Summit. The summit hosts 400 teens in Orange County and empowers them to serve their community through volunteerism, leadership roles and civic engagement. This is the fifteenth year for this event.

“The summit will allow young people to understand the impact they can have now on their local community,” said Damon Devins, CarMax sales development leader. “When these teens understand the importance of volunteerism and good citizenship, it gives them the tools to change the future of Orange County and beyond.”

The CarMax Foundation’s Regional Giving Program reinforces CarMax's commitment to funding programs that improve local communities. The Regional Giving Program provides grants to qualifying nonprofit organizations that have programs focused on education and youth leadership. CarMax associates working within each of the regions select the local organizations to recommend for grants. More than $2.5 million has been donated to local non-profit organizations across the United States through this program since it was started in 2007.
