EUGENE, OR - All eyes turned to Eugene, Ore., on August 24 and 25 when Brasher’s Northwest Auto Auction hosted the hottest event of the summer: the 6th annual Checkered Flag Sale.

The two-day sale kicked off with Team Racing and a Collector & Specialty Car Show & Sale on Tuesday afternoon. On Wednesday, the auction hosted its signature Checkered flag Sale on eight lanes of auction action.

“Everyone enjoys our Checkered Flag Sale,” said auction General Manager Lisa Larkin. “It’s a perfect mix of speed racing, special events, great food, classic cars and one of the biggest auctions of the year. The auction staff has a great time planning it, our customers always enjoy it, and this year’s event was bigger and better than ever!”

Race Day began at 2 pm on August 24th, with open racing and practice sessions on the race course at Brasher’s Northwest Auto Auction. Larkin explained that four-person teams competed in special racing go-carts provided for the event by Black Flag Racing. Three heats with six teams each determined the finalists for the “medal” round, when racers competed for bragging rights as the champions, and a $4,000 prize. This year’s winning team was Moore Racing, hailing from Roseburg, Oregon.

Another popular event was the Collector and Specialty Car Show from 3-6 pm, and the Specialty Car Auction at 6:45 pm.

“The Collector and Specialty Car Show and Sale has proved to be a big hit at our Checkered Flag Sale over the past several years, and this year was no exception. Crowds filled the lanes, eager for a chance to admire and bid on more than the collector and specialty vehicles,” said Larkin. “This year’s favorites were a ’73 Pantera with gold-plated engine, a ’90 Saleen Mustang, a ’72 Chevelle SS 454, and ’39 Buick Special 8.”

Customers attending the sale on Tuesday enjoyed an all-you-can-eat Southern-style barbecue dinner, a live DJ, the popular Engine Blow, and Balance Point Entertainment’s Wheelie Machine. New to the lineup of activities at this year’s Checkered Flag sale was Tuesday’s night’s Car Bash, when customers had the opportunity to make a donation to a local charity, and, in return, take a turn demolishing a car with a sledge hammer.

Sale day will began bright and early on Wednesday, August 25th, with 1100 units on eight lanes of auction action. All registered dealers received a free t-shirt, and enjoyed corn dogs, brats and root beer floats in the lanes throughout the day. Larkin reported that floats were available on every car, truck and SUV in the sale.

Featured consignors at the 2010 Checkered Flag Sale included Capital One, Hertz Car sales, Reliable Credit, Key Bank, RSA, Wheels, Wells Fargo Bank, US Bank, Wells Fargo Dealer Services and Kendall Auto Group, in addition to new and used car dealers from throughout the region. Wednesday’s sale lineup also included an RV, Marine and Powersports sale.

“There’s something for everyone at our Checkered Flag Sale…heart-pounding excitement on the race track, a great lineup of classic and specialty cars, and one of the best sales of the summer in this market!” said Larkin.

Brasher's Northwest Auto Auction offers a dealer consignment sale every Wednesday, averaging over 500 units per week and 68% sold. A nationally-known leader in the RV auction industry, Brasher's Northwest Auto Auction holds an RV sale on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month. Brasher's "World Famous" Specialty Auction on the 2nd Wednesday and the Tuesday prior averages 700 RV, Marine and PowerSport units from consignors including Bank of America, Bank of the West and GE Money.
