Missouri Gov. Blunt Signs Salvage Bill

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.- Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt has signed a bill that changes the state's total loss threshold to 80 percent of the vehicle's value prior to the accident.

According to CollisionWeek, the bill drew the support of the Missouri Collision Coalition and other repair industry groups.

Under the new law, a salvage vehicle is defined as a vehicle no more than six years old that's damaged to the extent that its total cost of repairs exceeds 80 percent of the vehicle's fair market value before the accident. The total cost of repairs doesn't include the cost of airbags, tires, sound systems or hail damage. In addition, that total cost may not include sales tax on parts or materials.
