ATLANTA – AutoTrader.com has announced the results of a major retail transaction study that reveals the company is now facilitating more than $99 billion in annual sales. This accounts for 28 percent of the 43 million used vehicles sold yearly in the U.S.
The retail transaction study, conducted by research firm MORPACE International, illustrates the nine-year-old company's economic impact on the automotive industry. Each month, AutoTrader.com generates 2.4 million serious used-car prospects, defined as people who contact a seller by phone, e-mail, or personal visit intending to purchase a vehicle within one month. The pool of prospects purchases more than 1 million vehicles per month, translating into more than $99 billion in annual sales directly attributed to AutoTrader.com sellers. These figures also show that 41 percent of AutoTrader.com's estimated 2.4 million monthly prospects purchase a vehicle from a seller on the site, according to AutoTrader.com.
Dealers listing their vehicles on AutoTrader.com experience an average of $40.45 cost-per-car sold, reported the company.
