RICHMOND, VA – CarMax, Inc., a retailer of used cars, has experienced a nearly 30-percent increase in visits to carmax.com in the past year. During the fiscal year ended February 28, 2006, there were an estimated 41 million visits to carmax.com compared with approximately 32 million visits in the previous fiscal year. In addition, carmax.com reached an important milestone with its first 1 million visits within a week during the week of March 19, 2006.

"We offer consumers quick and easy online access to a huge selection of high-quality vehicles, all browsable from the comfort of home," said Austin Ligon, president and chief executive officer of CarMax. "As we have expanded geographically and as awareness of CarMax has grown, we have seen a dramatic increase in the number of people logging onto our Web site."

"We are currently implementing several enhancements to carmax.com to make vehicle searches even easier for consumers," Ligon said. Upgrades to carmax.com that have been completed or are in the process of being implemented include:

  • Addition of multiple photographs to improve online viewing of vehicles.

  • Expansion and update of the car search engine to provide enhanced search, browse, and sorting capabilities.

  • Redesign of the homepage to make the Web site more user-friendly and easier for consumers to navigate.

  • Addition of Google maps and directions to make locating CarMax superstores easier.

  • Addition of new Community and About Us Web pages that provide the CarMax story, car care advice from CarMax's ASE-Master technicians, and other car-related information.
