Auction Academy, a professional education program of TPC Management, began its 2013 schedule by holding two training sessions in February. Auction Academy’s Senior Auction Managers Group met in Orlando, Florida, and included a visit to NADA as part of the curriculum. Later in the month, The Next Generation / Sons and Daughter Group gathered in Birmingham, Alabama for classes focusing on risk management.
The Orlando session for Senior Auction Managers was held in conjunction with the annual conference of the National Automobile Dealers Association, and was hosted by Sanford Auto Dealer Exchange. In addition to an array of classroom sessions, the students attended the NADA Convention and toured the booths of many prominent remarketers and industry vendors.
Among the classroom presenters were: John Poteet, Ph.D., from Louisiana First Choice Auto Auction; David Walsh, Center One Financial Services; Scott Kolb, United Road; Bill McIver, American Auto Auction Group; Dale Ainsworth, Ph.D., Valley Vision; Jim Simmons and Nancy Rabenold, Xcira; and Colleen Fitzgerald and Ted Craig, Used Car News. Additionally, the students toured Sanford Auto Dealer Exchange and had the opportunity to discuss the operations of the auction with Jeff Brody, auction co-owner and other senior auction staff.
The Birmingham session for Next Generation Group was hosted by Tom Adams and Auction Insurance Agency. The meeting began with visits to ABC Birmingham Auto Auction and ADESA Birmingham.
Classroom sessions were presented by: Ted Craig, Used Car News; Chuck Redden and Tom Adams, Auction Insurance Agency; Michael Rohdy, Gallagher Risk Management; Randy Dohse and Alan Lang, Nextgear Capital; Larry Eddlemon, Hazlett, Lewis & Bieter; Tammy Sullivan; and Ricky Beggs, Black Book.
The Academy holds quarterly class sessions in different locations around the country. Later in the spring, the two current class groups will meet together in the Baltimore area, hosted by BSC America’s Bel Air Auto Auction.
