Remarketing executive Joe Miller plans to take a career path from a national industry to his local community this summer, in a move becoming more common in corporate America.
The executive vice president for client success at AutoIMS steps down from the auction data and services company on June 30 so he can follow a career passion for coaching and consulting with non-profit organizations in the city of Atlanta and in the northern Georgia town of Ellijay.
Miller wants to build on the training from his current role in the discipline of coaching and aims to earn a certification through the International Coaching Federation.
“I hope to take my skills and find the right outlets in the community that are both one-on- one and small groups, working with people who don’t have many influences in their lives,” Miller said. “I find that’s a very rewarding type of interaction. With coaching, you are asking certain questions and helping people get in tune with their inner strengths and capabilities. You learn where they are, where they want to go, and then help then bridge that gap.”
While Miller will focus on non-profits, he’s keeping channels open to coach smaller businesses and young professionals. He also remains available to participate and lead sessions at remarketing industry conferences, where he has gained experience in moderating workshops and serving as official emcee of the International Automotive Remarketers Alliance annual Summer Roundtable conference.
Miller first joined AutoIMS in 2009 to help redesign the RecoveryIMS product line and was quickly promoted to director of client support, according to a recent news release from the company. His leadership has helped drive AutoIMS’s growth and success. AutoIMS promoted Miller to executive vice president in April 2022.
“Joe’s contributions to the success of AutoIMS have been simply invaluable,” said AutoIMS CEO Venkat Krishnamoorthy in a news release. “He has invested significant time developing client and employee relationships, creatively solutioning real-world problems, uncovering value-added products, and ensuring that everyone is positioned for a win-win outcome.”
Krishnamoorthy said he applauds Miller for putting his skills to use in “a much-needed context in society. He will be greatly missed, and the AutoIMS team will be cheering him on as he navigates this next phase of his career.”
For now, Miller’s next big task is moderating a workshop on March 29 at the Conference of Automotive Remarketing, Driving Client Success: Get Out of My Car...Get Into My Head!, where he can further practice his coaching skills by helping consignors and auctions see remarketing from the other’s viewpoint.
Last year, he hosted an interactive, creative, first-of-its-kind workshop at CAR that focused on how to structure an operation to find the right floor price for a vehicle. Attendee teams competed on developing a floor pricing model that they displayed on cereal boxes. Miller no doubt be looking for more such ideas in his new role.
“When you get out of the forest, it’s easier to see some of the trees,” he said. “I’ll see what happens when I gain more perspective after a few months in this new job.”
