Auction Academy has entered its second year, with two class groups participating in its continuing education program: the Managers Group which convened last month in Spokane, Wash., for training in conjunction with DAA Northwest’s Rock and Roll Sale, and the Next Generation/Sons & Daughters Class, which met in Dallas during IARA’s Summer Roundtable.
Reviewing the curriculum for the two classes and the opportunities afforded to the participants of both groups, Auction Academy President Richard Curtis acknowledged the role that the remarketing industry has played in the Academy’s ongoing success.
Curtis makes special note that Black Book, Henry and Patty Stanley, OVE, and Design Works AMG have also confirmed their sponsorship for the second year, while Next Gear has made a multi- year commitment to the Academy.
“Auction Academy was conceived with the urging and support of a number of industry leaders who saw the need for a formal program to train auction owners of the future,” Curtis said. “We are grateful to those who sponsored the Academy during its inaugural year: Black Book, OVE, Next Gear, Design Works AMG, Used Car News, Cherokee Publishing/ Auto Remarketing, Henry and Patty Stanley, United Road Services, Direct Auction Services, Xcira, the Independent Auction Group, and Capital Automotive Reconditioning Services.“
“A program of this caliber would not be possible without the many presenters who have given of their time in various areas of instruction, or the participation of individual session sponsors who have opened their doors, and allowed our class groups to examine their processes and operations as part of their course curriculum,” continued Curtis. “Facilities all over the country have enthusiastically hosted class sessions, including Southern Auto Auction, Manheim Nashville, ABC Birmingham, ADESA Birmingham, DAA Northwest, BSC America’s Bel Air Auto Auction, Sanford Auto Dealers Exchange and Auction Insurance Agency. America’s Auto Auction Dallas will host Auction Academy in late August, while the fall session will meet at Flint Auto Auction.”

We sincerely feel a program like this helps to ensure the viability of the auto auction process as a cornerstone for vehicle remarketing well into the next generation.”
The Auction Academy is a continuing education program developed by TPC Management Company (TPC) for professionals in the auto auction industry. It provides a two-year training and development experience for automotive auction professionals, structured like an Executive MBA program. With faculty drawn from expert practitioners around the country, Auction Academy’s programs are designed to enhance essential skill sets, promote best practices and yield better auction performance.
