Automobile salvage and auction company Copart, Inc. announced on September 8, that it has purchased a salvage facility in Eugene, OR, according to East Bay Business Times.

With the addition of the 19-acre Eugene location, Fairfield, CA-based Copart has 104 locations throughout North America. Copart has added 11 locations in the U.S. and Canada since August 2002. The company provides insurance companies with services to process and sell salvage vehicles through auctions to vehicle dismantlers, rebuilders, repair licensees, and used-vehicle dealers.

Willis Johnson, CEO of Copart, said, “The Eugene facility will help reduce towing costs and relieve capacity issues at our Portland location.” He added that the Portland facility often sent trucks as far south as the California border to pick up vehicles, a distance of more than 250 miles. “We will now service that area out of Eugene,” he said.

In other news, Copart announced on September 3, 2003 that it has opened a salvage facility in Toronto, the first in Canada. With the addition of this 28-acre facility, Copart has added 10 locations since August 2002, and now has 103 throughout North America.
