CARCO has announced that a new version of its CheckThatVIN motor vehicle title history report is now available to NIADA members.

In addition to the standard year, make and model information, CheckThatVIN reports will now include a full vehicle description when available, based on the vehicle identification number.

In addition, CheckThatVIN has added a prepay option – dealers can now load their account with as little as $10 and run reports on a debit system. The system alerts them when it is time to reload.

All CheckThatVIN reports include data from the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS). NMVTIS was created by federal law to protect prospective buyers and sellers of used cars and trucks from concealed vehicle histories. Insurance carriers, auto recyclers, junk and salvage yards, and states are required to report vehicle history information – including title brands, such as "salvage" or "flood" – to NMVTIS.  It has been estimated that there are more than 250,000 "flood" vehicles realted to Superstorm Sandy on the market. Dealers in California are required by state law to use NMVTIS data.
