NEW ORLEANS – Virginia independent used car dealer Sandra Moss was recently honored with Manheim’s fifth annual “Barbara Cox Anthony Automotive Woman of the Year Award,” recognizing the many contributions Moss has made to the automotive industry and her community.
Manheim president and CEO Dean Eisner presented the award to Moss at Northwood University’s annual breakfast at the National Automotive Dealers Association convention, held this year in New Orleans.
Moss, who owns Moss Motor Company in Dillwyn, Va., along with her husband, Bill, and son, Billy, has worked for more than 25 years, not only to grow her own business, but also to serve state and national independent dealer associations.
“In many ways, independent dealers are the backbone of the used car industry, so it’s only fitting that we should honor one of the country’s most accomplished independent dealers with the Barbara Cox Anthony Automotive Woman of the Year Award,” said Eisner. “Sandra Moss has built a career on the most admirable of traits – leadership, integrity and customer service. She is a passionate advocate for her industry, her company and her community and is a highly deserving recipient of this award.”
Moss currently serves as chairwoman of the board of the National Independent Dealers Association, after serving as the organization’s second female president in 2007. She was a graduate of the first class of the NIADA Certified Master Dealer program in 2001. Among other notable achievements in her career:
Moss, whose dealership is located in the same part of central Virginia where she grew up, has also supported numerous community endeavors. In addition to helping found her local Chamber of Commerce, she serves as vice chairwoman of the Fuqua School, a private K-12 school in Farmville, Va., and is an active fundraiser and supporter of local fire and rescue squads.
“It’s truly an honor to be recognized by Manheim and to join the other accomplished women who have received this award,” Moss said. “Ever since we started our dealership, our philosophy has been to sell good vehicles, provide good service to our customers, and give back to our community as much as we can. It’s a simple plan, and it has worked well.”
Previous winners of Manheim’s Barbara Cox Anthony Woman of the Year Award include Toyota executive Tracey Doi; Enterprise Rent-A-Car executive vice president and chief operating officer Pam Nicholson; Maguire Automotive Group president Marcy H. Maguire; and Alexis Jacobs, owner of Columbus Fair Auto Auction in Columbus, Ohio.
The annual award was created five years ago to honor women who have been leaders in their profession and have contributed to improving the automotive industry. Anthony supported Manheim’s growth to become the leading provider of remarketing services in the automotive industry.
In conjunction with the award to Moss, Manheim will make a scholarship contribution to a deserving junior or senior student at Northwood University.
